The New York State Office of General Services (OGS) required testing of existing relief wells at flood control projects in Elmira and Portville, New York. The New York State Department of Environmental Conversation (DEC) maintains the flood control projects and developed the testing protocols for the relief wells. The relief wells are located on the landside of earthen dikes. The Elmira site includes 65 wells and Portville includes 56 wells.

MMCE completed the pump tests following the protocols developed by the DEC including:

·    Photographing the well at the ground surface and measuring the depth to the bottom and the water level in each well.
·    Video-inspecting each well using a Laval Underground Borehole Camera, R-CAM 1000 capable of video recording in a down hole orientation and at a 360-degree side-view orientation.
·    Pumping each well continuously for up to two hours using a Dayton® Deep Well Submersible Pump.
·    Measuring the turbidity of the discharge water 4 minutes after starting each test and at the end of each test.
·    Collecting samples for Imhoff Cone tests 4 minutes after starting each test and at the end of each test.

MMCE provided the OGS and DEC with reports for each site including the results for each test and the video recordings for each well.
