McMahon & Mann reviewed the geologic conditions at the site located about a half-mile north of the Onondaga Escarpment. The multi-million-dollar expansion includes a new gallery, an underground parking garage, a pedestrian connector bridge, and an artistic courtyard covering. Foundation recommendations included a mat for the gallery and garage, spread footings for exterior stairways and mechanical equipment, caissons for the pedestrian bridge, and micro-piles for the courtyard covering. McMahon & Mann is providing construction monitoring services for the project.
Excavation for the new gallery sub-basement resulted in groundwater flowing into the excavation area. McMahon & Mann designed a permanent dewatering system constructed beneath the sub-basement to limit the infiltration rate and control the groundwater.
